Objectives
Based on the project itinerary and Dr. Tomlinson's professional history, the primary objectives of the January 2026 Ghana mission were as follows: Clinical Training and Capacity Building: Conduct hands-on training sessions and demonstrations for local midwives and clinicians to standardize newborn male circumcision practices. Institutional Collaboration: Engage with leadership at major medical institutions, including Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, the University of Ghana Medical Centre, and the University of Health and Allied Science (UHAS), to discuss integrating EIMC into national midwifery curricula. Community and Cultural Engagement: Meet with traditional leaders, such as Chiefs and Queen Mothers in the Adaklu district, to assess community attitudes and ensure clinical advancements respect local traditions. Infrastructure and Resource Support: Assess regional supply chains and donate AccuCirc® devices to participating facilities to improve immediate access to safe, sterile procedures. Strategic Planning: Evaluate provider capacity and cost structures to explore the feasibility of establishing a long-term Center of Excellence for sustained high-quality care.
