Advancing Newborn Care in Ghana: Dr. David Tomlinson and SafeCirc®Dr. David Tomlinson, MD, FAAFP, Founder and Chief Medical Officer of SafeCirc, LLC, recently concluded a clinical mission to Ghana from January 2–10, 2026. A physician and engineer, Dr. Tomlinson has dedicated over a decade to developing the AccuCirc® technology—a device specifically designed to meet World Health Organization (WHO) specifications for safe, sterile early infant male circumcision (EIMC) in resource-limited settings.
Mission Objectives and ImpactAccompanied by a team of U.S. participants, Dr. Tomlinson traveled through the Volta Region, Cape Coast, and Accra to collaborate with Ghanaian health officials and clinicians. The primary goals of the trip included:
Capacity Building: Conducting hands-on training sessions for local midwives at facilities such as the Mimi Health Center and Fountain Medical.
Strategic Collaboration: Engaging with leadership at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, and the University of Ghana Medical Centre to discuss integrating EIMC into national midwifery curricula.
Community Engagement: Meeting with traditional leaders, including Chiefs and Queen Mothers in Adaklu, to ensure clinical advancements respect cultural traditions.
Resource Donation: Providing AccuCirc devices to participating facilities to facilitate immediate improvements in procedural safety.
A Legacy of Innovation. This initiative builds upon Dr. Tomlinson’s extensive global health work, which includes training over 500 providers and overseeing 20,000 successful cases across Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Kenya without a single serious adverse event. His efforts in Ghana represent a vital step toward establishing a Center of Excellence, ensuring that Ghanaian families have sustained access to standardized, high-quality care grounded in his patented medical innovations.
