In order to remove the language barriers that still exist between the English and French educational systems and to promote cultural mixing between learners, a delegation of twelve psychology students from the University of Georgia in the United States, visited the University of Lomé on Thursday, May 19, 2022. This visit organized by Give Right Togo, the country representation of the American foundation, Give Right Foundation, is part of a three-week stay in Togo during which the American students will get acquainted with the diversity and cultural realities of our country.
The delegation of psychology students from the University of Georgia led by Dr. Allison Skinner, was received by the 1st vice-president of the University of Lome, Professor Komlan Batawila. The delegation was introduced to the 1st vice-president by the leaders of Give Right Togo, namely Dr. Kossidze (president), Pr Kafui Kpégba (vice-president) and Komla Avono (MC), (secretary general). The exchanges focused on the possibility of creating a framework that facilitates the mobility of students between the two universities.
During their stay, these students will go to the field as part of community learning, a teaching unit that they can validate, after on-site assessment. Several structures are targeted for the collection of data and information in order to achieve quality work, such as the Christian Union of Young People (YMCA Togo), the Brigade for Minors, the Directorate of Child Protection, the Commune Golfe 2, and civil society organizations working in the field of child protection. To facilitate the work, three UL students in psychology were selected to accompany their foreign colleagues in order to collect reliable information in the field.
The welcoming ceremony which took place at the Gbéassor room of the presidency of the University of Lomé, ended with a visit of the university campus.
